Hitler's youth was an organizition that started in 1920. Hitler belived that this organization was as crutial to German children as school. In 1933 the amount of children attendning the organization was up too 100,000 kids. In 1936, the attendance stood at 4 million members. In 1936 it beame mandatory to have something to do with this organiztion.You didnt have to activily join the orginaztion if you paid the subscription each month , but by 1939 joining the activities became mandatory.The Hiter's youth organization was for children 10-18 years old. There were separate programs for boys and girls. The service for boys was to prepare them for the military and the serive for the girls was to prepare them for motherhood.

At 10 years old boys, joined the Deutsches Jungvolk (German Young People) until they were 13 when theymoved up to the Hitler Jugend (Hitler Youth) until they were 18. In 1936, the writer J R Tunus wrote about the activities of the Hitler Jugend. He stated that part of their "military athletics" (Wehrsport) included marching, bayonet drill, grenade throwing, trench digging, map reading, gas defence, use of dugouts, how to get under barbed wire and pistol shooting.

At 10 years old girls , joined the Jungmadelbund (League of Young Girls) and when they were 14 they transferred to the Bund Deutscher Madel (League of German Girls). Girls had to be able to run 60 metres in 14 seconds, throw a ball 12 metres, complete a 2 hour march, swim 100 metres and know how to make a bed.
